East Ayrshire Council Active Travel Strategy

East Ayrshire Council aims to create a connected and direct walking, wheeling and cycling (active travel) network. A place with safe routes to access services, employment, education and leisure attractions.

Sweco was commissioned in 2021 by Ayrshire Roads Alliance, on behalf of East Ayrshire Council, to develop an active travel strategy for the East Ayrshire area using input provided by the community and key stakeholders.

The aim of an active travel strategy is to provide an action plan that will enable more journeys to be made by active modes of travel, such as walking, wheeling or cycling. Enabling and encouraging active modes of travel has many benefits, both for the individual and society. From improving health and wellbeing, to reducing road accidents and emissions.
