Road Opening Permit
Anyone wishing to excavate in a public road, footway or footpath must obtain a road opening permit before doing so.
To obtain a road opening permit for the A76, A77 or A78 Trunk Roads, you should contact Amey who operate and maintain the trunk road network in the South West of Scotland on behalf of Transport Scotland
If the application relates to sewer connections, water supply connections, electricity connections or telecommunications connections in the public road, please use the Permission to Execute Road Works application forms.
- To comply with legislation the Road Opening Permit application should be submitted at least 15 working days (21 calendar days) before the requested start date.
- Please make sure that any work related to the permit is planned accordingly.
- Any road opening permit is subject to conditions as set out by Ayrshire Roads Alliance.
- Should your application for a road opening permit be rejected, the cost of the application is non-refundable.

Cost
Road Opening Permit (East Ayrshire) £270 every four weeks
Road Opening Permit (South Ayrshire) £296 every four weeks

Before considering an application Ayrshire Roads Alliance must have received all the required supporting documentation before the application is considered lodged.
An obstruction cannot be placed on a public road without the permission of Ayrshire Roads Alliance.
