Did you know that more than 60% of child car seats checked in Scotland are fitted incorrectly. Even a small mistake can reduce the protection a car seat provides in the event of a collision.
Our Road Safety Officers offer FREE car seat safety checks to help ensure your child is travelling as safely as possible.

Who can attend?
Our free checks are available for parents, grandparents, carers and anyone who regularly transports children.
Whether you've just bought a new seat, moved it into another vehicle or simply want peace of mind, we're here to help.
What happens during a safety check?
During our car seat safety checks, our Road safety Officers will:
- Check that your child's car seat is suitable for your child's age, height and weight.
- Make sure the seat is fitted correctly in your vehicle.
- Check that the harness is adjusted properly
- Answer any questions you may have about your child seat
The checks are friendly and informative and completely free. There is no obligation to purchase any equipment.
Why is it important?
A correctly fitted car seat can significantly reduce the risk of serious injury in the event of a collision.
Common issues our Road Safety Officers find during our free car seat safety checks include:
- Loose seat installation.
- Twisted harness straps.
- Harnesses that are too loose
- Incorrect routing of the seat belt
- Using the wrong seat for a child's height or weight.
