The Ayrshire Roads Alliance is committed to delivering a robust public Electric Vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure for residents and visitors across East and South Ayrshire.

Our current chargers operated by Charge Place Scotland are set to be decommissioned at the end of 2026, and existing EV chargers are to be transitioned to a new network. Details of the transition can be found in the Chargeplace Scotland Transition Resource Hub.

Transition to Believ

Believ has now been appointed as the new Charge Point Operator across Ayrshire through the Pan Ayrshire Electric Vehicle Charging Project, a transformative initiative by East, South and North Ayrshire Councils to expand the EV infrastructure across the region.

In the upcoming months, our existing EV chargers will migrate from Charge Place Scotland to Believ. During the migration period you may find a mix of Charge Place Scotland and Believ chargers across Ayrshire. The operator will be clearly displayed on each charger.

Your Charge Place Scotland account is not automatically transferred to Believ, and so your Charge Place Scotland Account or RFID card will not work on Believ chargers.

Can I use my existing ChargePlace Scotland login details for Believ?

No. Your ChargePlace Scotland account does not carry over. You can create a new Believ account to continue using public chargers in Ayrshire, or you can use them without an account.
For the best user experience, we recommend downloading the Believ app on the App Store or Google Play.

Can I still use the ChargePlace Scotland app?

Once migration of a charger is complete, no – that charger will be operated by Believ and can no longer be accessed using the ChargePlace Scotland app. You will be able to find the chargers still on Zapmap, Electroverse & many other online eMobility Service Providers (eMSPs).If you’re travelling elsewhere in Scotland, you may still need the ChargePlace Scotland app for chargers that haven’t yet migrated to a new network operator.

What happens to my ChargePlace Scotland RFID card – will it still work?

Your ChargePlace Scotland RFID card will no longer work on chargers that have migrated to the Believ network in Ayrshire. These chargers will accept contactless payment (where available), payment through our app or using a QR code. You will be able to order a new RFID card through our website or on the app. You will also be able to pay on ZapMap, Electroverse, plugsurfing and many other eMSPs.

Who manages the network now that Believ is taking over?

Believ operates and manages the public EV charging network across East Ayrshire, North Ayrshire and South Ayrshire. This includes day-to-day operation of the chargers, customer support, maintenance coordination, tariff management, and ongoing network development.

How do I download and log in to the Believ app?

Download the Believ app for free from the App Store or Google Play. Once installed, create a new account using your email address to start charging and manage your sessions.

Will I still be able to use the same chargers after the transition?

Yes. The same public chargers are being migrated to the Believ network. Some of these sites will be upgraded to newer technology where the chargers have become too dated to operate.

Where can I see the charging tariffs?

You can view current tariffs in the Believ app or on the Believ pricing page – select a charging location to see the connection fee, cost per kWh, and any overstay charges. Where possible tariff information will also be displayed on the screen of the charger.

How do I report a fault on a Believ charger?

Please contact us immediately via our 24/7 Customer Support Team on 0800 051 5335 if you see one of our charge points is damaged. You can identify the affected charge point by giving us the charge point ID number (e.g. A0804), which is displayed on the front and side of the charge point. Please do not attempt to use or touch the charge point if you see any damage.
