The Ayrshire Roads Alliance, as part of its ongoing programme to improve the condition of the road network, will be carrying out essential road resurfacing works on the section of the A70 between Muirkirk and Glenbuck on Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 September.
The roadworks will involve removing sections of the existing road surface, regulating, adjusting ironware, laying a new surface course and renewing the associated road markings and studs.
All preparatory work will be undertaken on weekdays between 08.00 and 17.00.
Convoy traffic management will be in place and delays are possible.
To ensure the safety of the roads operatives and the travelling public, one further weekend road closure will be required to lay the new surface course.
The road closure, originally scheduled for Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 August, has now been re-scheduled to be in place from 08:00 to 18:00 on both Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 September.
An alternative route will be signed via B743 to Strathaven, A71 to Stonehouse, B7078 to re-join the A70 near Douglas and vice versa.
Emergency access will be maintained during the closure and through the works site.
It is hoped that the resurfacing work will be completed within the timescales stipulated, however, the work is weather dependent and any unforeseen difficulties could result in a delay.
Updates will be posted to the Ayrshire Roads Alliance website and @AyrshireRoads on Twitter.
