Ava Brizell, Primary 6, from Forehill Primary School, has won the annual Road Safety calendar competition for her artwork that raises awareness for safety on our streets.
The winning design was selected from hundreds of entries from schools across South Ayrshire. The competition was organised by Ayrshire Roads Alliance’s Road Safety Team in partnership with Junior Road Safety Officers in each school, helping to spread the important road safety campaign message, “Step up for safer streets”, to raise public awareness and act as the driver for positive change on the roads, from safety technology in vehicles and speed limits to pedestrian crossings and cycle lanes. We can all step up to learn about, shout about and celebrate these solutions.
Councillor Ian Cochrane, Portfolio Holder for Sustainability and the Environment had the very difficult task of choosing the winning image to feature on the 2019 Road Safety Calendar.
Councillor Cochrane said, “Ava’s done a great job highlighting safety on our streets and I’d like to congratulate her for winning this competition with her imaginative design. The standard of entries was very high, it’s obvious all the children taking part had a great understanding of the issues involved and were keen to educate others to help keep themselves and others safe. It was hard to pick the winning entry, but Ava is certainly a worthy winner.”
The free calendar is now available from South Ayrshire Council offices.
