Barskimming Old Bridge works
Wed, 12 Nov 2014
Work is progressing at pace on the 240 year old listed Barskimming Old Bridge just outside Mauchline.
The bridge was deteriorating due to its age and the long term effects of repeated exposure to bad weather. The planned works on the bridge were extensive and robust to ensure the lifespan of the bridge could be extended into the future and were also complementary to the original bridge.
Work started on site in September however when the Council’s contractor began excavation works on the embankment, where the retaining wall had partially collapsed, it became clear that the bridge was more badly damaged than the initial inspection had revealed.
The increased volume of work requires a temporary water main diversion and the Ayrshire Roads Alliance is working closely with Scottish Water to ensure that the extensive repairs can be undertaken without local residents and businesses being negatively affected.
It is anticipated that the works will now be completed by the end of December and the Ayrshire Roads Alliance apologises for any inconvenience experienced during these essential works.
