Winter is coming
Tue, 23 Sep 2014
You know that winter is on its way when the mornings get colder, leaves are falling from the trees and the gritters are out on their first dry run of the year.
On Friday 3 October the Ayrshire Roads Alliance’s gritters will be hitting the roads to test out the gritting routes in East and South Ayrshire before the onset of winter.
Councillor Douglas Reid, Leader of East Ayrshire Council and Chair of the Joint Committee said: “The Ayrshire Roads Alliance has reviewed the gritting routes in both areas and will be testing them fully before the onset of winter. Salt is also being stock piled at our main depots and currently have over 14,300 tonnes in the salt domes with more on order.
“This is the first year that the Ayrshire Roads Alliance takes over winter maintenance for both areas and plans are well underway to ensure a seamless transition for our communities.”
Ayrshire Roads Alliance’s preparations for winter are well underway, are yours? The Scottish Government will be launching their Get ready for winter campaign on Monday 20 October to encourage communities and individuals to put plans in place to prepare for severe weather including winter driving, disruption caused by winter weather including business continuity and also basic household plans for winter.
